From the President’s Desk - Spring 2009

Dear Fellow Members of SCAPIP:

On behalf of the newly elected and returning officers I would like to thank you for this opportunity to serve the association and build on the work we have done these past few years.

Along with the rest of the board of directors, I am looking forward to keeping the association a forum for maintaining contact with friends and peers as well as a source of information about the work of the programs that make up this great association.

I am excited about the direction this board has taken with the recent move to become an associate member of NAPSA. I am also encouraged by the large participation that we had at our last Fall Workshop. There are very few organizations with members as
experienced and as willing to share their experience with others as SCAPIP. I also understand that our state is facing a hard budget year. We must strive to show the value of each of our programs and our ability to adapt to changing times. Crime has never decreased during years of financial hardship and I do not expect that to
change this year. I do expect that more people will make bad decisions and the need for programs such as PTI, Arbitration, and Drug Court will increase. Now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to be the shining light in each of our circuits.

To help showcase our association and to help share information we have redesigned our
web site and will be sending out this newsletter twice a year. The web site has a
forum area and a calendar, as well as contact information for each circuit. The
newsletter will include stories from several circuits so that members will have an avenue for sharing their information and learning about what other circuits are doing. I encourage you to visit the web site at www.scapip.org.

Each of the SCAPIP board members is ready to field any suggestions or comments on making our association the best of its kind, and you can always contact me directly with any requests. Again, I thank you for the opportunity to serve this association
and I look forward to working with all of you.
